The new trophy was designed by the Italian sculptor Silvio Gazzaniga, who later designed the current UEFA Cup. The world-renowned Spanish porcelain manufacturer Lladro, in association with Sport Billy productions, were commissioned to make a limited number of presentation copies for the 1982 world cup.
