Collection of plays from the BBC's anthology series. In 'The Lie' (1970), written by Ingmar Bergman, married couple Andrew (Frank Finlay) and Anna (Gemma Jones) lead a comfortable middle-class existence, however, despite their affluence and comfort the pair find themselves growing ever more resentful towards one another. In 'Shakespeare Or Bust' (1973), three Derbyshire miners hire a canal boat and travel the waterways of Stratford-upon-Avon. In 'Back of Beyond' (1974) Rachel Roberts stars as a reclusive widow living in the Welsh mountains who has occasional conversations with young Rachel (Lynne Jones) who delivers her paper. In 'A Passage to England' (1975), Anand (Tariq Yunus) is stranded in Amsterdam with his uncle and cousin when he is promised safe passage to England by Onslow (Colin Welland).
