Robert Mitchum and Ken Takakura star in this neo-noir crime drama directed by Sydney Pollack. Retired American detective Harry Kilmer (Mitchum) is asked by his friend George Tanner (Brian Keith) to rescue his daughter, who has been kidnapped by a yakuza gangster. During the post-war occupation of Japan, Kilmer and Tanner worked together in Tokyo and now Tanner hopes that Kilmer can use his connections to save his daughter. After travelling to Japan, Kilmer seeks help from Ken Tanaka (Takakura), a man who owes Kilmer a great debt, but soon both of their lives are in danger. The cast also includes Keiko Kishi, Eiji Okada and Herb Edelman.
