Remove the original latch and slide the new latch into the slot. Use pliers or small wire cutters to cut it off so the latch assembly still slides easily and is flush with the edge of the window. If the latch is too long and passes through the edge of the window, the cutout on most windows has a square or rounded end on the inside.
