The extra USB power lead supplied plugs into this cable and into a USB socket on your TV. This is needed to power the adapter cable. Instead the converter will use the component analog 480p video signal and turn it into digital information to be send through the HDMI cable so as to help with the display on a 720p or 1080p TV.
