In 'Episode One' Duke Leto (William Hurt) leads the House of Atreides as it takes over the command of the desert planet Arrakis and the harvesting of its uniquely powerful 'spice', an element essential to inter-galactic space travel. But the rule of Atreides is disrupted by Baron Harkonnen (Ian McNeice), a former commander of Arrakis, who has vowed to do everything in his power to regain control. Harkonnen brings chaos to the Atreides regime, banishing Jessica (Saskia Reeves) and Paul (Alec Newman), Leto's wife and son, to the mercy of the desert, and re-establishing his control of the spice flow.
