Vintage wooden travel chess set in folding box. Dimensions (closed): 204Lx100Wx60D Handmade in India mid 20th century. Complete. All the peg-in pieces are hand carved. In very good condition, all brass hinges and fittings are intact. The chessboard is made from inlaid wood and is in excellent condition. The head shape and carving of the pieces (knights are shown) is not perfectly uniform with individual hand carved cuts rather than machine shaping. The surface texture and small variations in angles also strongly suggest this set was shaped with hand tools. This is a highly collectible vintage travel chess set from the mid 20th century.
