Ezra Otis Kendall (1818-1899): The star chart was the result of Kendall's earlier research, from 1838-1854, while teaching math and astronomy at Philadelphia Central High School. In 1855, Kendall was appointedprofessor of mathematics and astronomy at the University of Pennsylvania, where he taught until 1899.
