Varroa mite (Varroa destructor) is becoming more prevalent in UK honey bee colonies. This bee parasite dwells on the bees and in the hives, feeding on them. Attacks by varroa mites can weaken bees, making them less able to execute their jobs and support the colony; they can also make bees more susceptible to disease.
