Rare Early Ercol 1940s Rocking Chair Solid Elm Wood Vintage Retro

A rare early example of the Ercol rocking chair dating from the 1940s. With all the classic hallmarks of the Ercol chair, with the slim cylindrical spindle back, the curves of the arms and tapering supports, all of which are also seen in later Ercol models. The back of this rocking chair is lower than most in later ranges and gives it a more traditional cottage look. The wood is stained dark and shows eight decades of use in the patina on the arms and natural wear in all the places you’d expect. To the rear of the seat is stamped CC41 290 F.182, the latter of which are model numbers, the CC41 refers to the British war time Commodity Control initiated in 1941 (lasting until 1951) to show that the item adhered to the government’s austerity regulations.
