This lets you adapt your Thunderbolt 2 cable, so that it fits into a more up to date Thunderbolt 3 or 4 port. Or to a USB-C port if your device is compatible. I've been using this for a number of years to connect my OWC 4 bay external drive firstly to my 2019 iMac, and now to my 2025 iMac.
