This stunning folio map is from Abraham Ortelius’s Theatrum Orbis Terrarim- Parergon- Nomenclator Ptolemaicus. The atlas was published in Antwerp by Christoph Plantin Press in 1584. The work was first published in 1570 and this is from the second Latin edition printed by Plantin. Map measures 21 inches by 17 1/4 inches with centerfold as issued. Latin text on verso and exquisite original hand coloring. Amazing details of ships and detailed cartouche.
