Monel steel - For decades this material had been almost forgotten by string manufacturers. Pyramid is proud to announce the return of genuine Monel strings. Until the early 70's, either Monel steel or pure nickel was used as the tensioning material for electric guitar string production. Unfortunately, this trend was lost in favor of cheaper, nickel-plated steel strings. The nickel-plated steel strings were then wound on hexagonal steel cores and mass-produced. PYRAMID manufactures the Monel steel strings according to old tradition and winds the Monel wire onto a round steel core. If you are looking for an alternative to the Pure Nickel strings, then the Monel Classics are probably just the thing. The Monel Classics close the large tonal gap between the nickel-plated steel and the pure nick.
