AKADAMA Japanese substrate for bonsai DESCRIPTION Akadama is a clay of volcanic origin, from Japan, which is used in the preparation of substrates for bonsai. Akadama over time begins to flake and therefore after a couple of years it is necessary to repot the plants. It is an inert material, brown-yellow in color, with a neutral pH and well endowed with minerals. Akadama ibaraki double red band is a superior quality product characterized by high hardness and durability over time; this limits the classic ""flaking"" of the grain which then causes radical asphyxiation to the bonsai.
