The 5116R belongs to the legendary "Clous de Paris" Calatrava family. Its lineage traces directly back to the Ref. 3919, which was the face of Patek Philippe’s advertising for nearly 20 years. The 5116 was introduced as the high-luxury counterpart to the 5119. While the 5119 uses a standard lacquered dial, the 5116 features a Grand Feu Enamel dial. It maintains the iconic hobnail bezel—a design choice that has defined the "essential" Patek Philippe dress watch since the mid-20th century. Like many classic manual-wind Calatravas, the 5116 has been discontinued as Patek moves toward larger case sizes and different bezel textures (like the newer 6119), making the 5116R a rare find on the secondary market.
