This magnificent cross-reliquary was donated to the Cathedral of Cosenza in Calabria, Italy, by Emperor Frederick II of Swabia in 1222 upon the cathedral's consecration. The Stauroteca is an example of Norman-Byzantine style and is considered a product of the Norman factory in Palermo from the late 12th century.
