this was my Grandma's music box which she gave to me . I have owned it for years but it's in need of a service as though it plays it seems to play just one tune now and it used to play several airs. some teeth are missing from the comb also. spring seems ok though. I don't know anything about it's history other than it sat in my Grandma's front parlour for years. please check the photos as they contribute to the description I would prefer collection as it is very heavy but delicate from smoke and pet free home can post but collection preferred and only to mainland uk

Retailed by J M Ebblewhite. Working with all teeth present. Has three enamel butterflies striking three bells 21cm H, 48cm W, 28cm D. In need of some restoration work as per pics. Casing has age related wear and tear and needs some restoration work. Although it plays, starts and stops and the three butterflies all strike the mechanics would also benefit from some restoration work. There is also signs of historical woodworm to the casing. This music box is AF and needs some restoration work to bring it back to life. I don’t know where the ‘extra’ cog has come from, as it was loose in the box when found. Priced accordingly. Hear the music box play a couple of tunes from the link at the top of the MAIN DESCRIPTION below. You may need to copy/paste the address into your browser. As you will have heard this music box plays really beautifully. It has a clear, tuneful tone and there are none of the squeaks you will find on many of the other music boxes on the site. This antique dates circa 1880 and is offered in good, antique condition. The plain, walnut case with ebonised interior and original tunecard under the lid. The mechanism retains stop work on the mainspring and there is no damage to the teeth/tips on the comb whilst the pinning on the cylinder is very good indeed. There is no worm to the case and I do not have the key for the lids lock. The top of the lid shows some wear as pictured. DIMENSIONS: Weighs 4.4kg before wrapping.
