Walter Henry Sweet studied at Exeter School of Art under John Shapland and was a prolific painter of village and countryside scenes in the south west of England in the early years of the 20. This is an especially vibrant example of Sweet’s work, though the subject is a little mysterious.

Antique, 19th century, likely late Victorian or early Edwardian, Hudson River School Style Oil On Wooden Panel painting (insidentally reminding of Bob Ross's brushwork). Unsigned, well preserved, with clean varnish, a few occasional small scratches, framed with an elegant, and at the same time rather solid, period gilded wooden frame, which has a few painted over minor losses. Initially came from a Hampshire (UK) country estate sale. Size: 43 x 63 x 5 cm or 17" x 24 3/4" x 2" including the frame. Please refer to the photographs for further visual information.
