There is a small hairline split in the barrel plastic which is visible in gallery image 5, near the "58mm" narrative around the edge of the lens. The USM, although working quickly and pretty quietly, does have a bit of a dry squeak to it (this is not that noticeable in the video).

Received as a present, attached to my camera on two occasions to try out at home, but couldn't get the hang of how to use it. I am not a professional photographer....
