I f you are not an experienced engineer and have not previously worked with the modern 1% carbon steel (as against the 0.9% traditional), I would advice you to choose a Stainless Steel spring, especially if you want to shape the spring. and maybe go for a slightly thicker spring to make up for the fact that stainless steel springs are not as strong as the carbon steel ones.
