These were all struck by Mathew Bolton, Birmingham in 1797 for the Royal Mint. Nearly 50 million of them were eventually released, but not many survive. as he had the very latest high-tech coin presses, running only on steam power !

George's face has Geor on it and and Britannia has the words Shamrock, Anchor and Briton on the face of the coin. along with 1860 between Britannia and 1797 on the very edge of the coin. The intricate design of the Penny set within the copper pin tray adds a special touch to any collection.
