It allows a camera to be mounted in both horizontal and vertical positions on a tripod. It has 3 tripod hole positions, 2 on the bottom and one on the side. Good overall condition. Both left and right top sides seem to have been taped with fabric. I have not dared to unpick it, as I am not sure whether it was done for grip or to protect the original paintwork. Dust inside lenses, even new ones, won't affect images.
