A full-cheeked French link snaffle works well with green horses, as the full-cheek prevents the snaffle from being pulled through the horse's mouth. On young horses, bits with a full cheek are often used to make handling easier, as the cheek has a more positive effect on the cheek when the rider asks to turn.
