Rare Civil War Era Branford Japanese Collection Rim Lock, Pat 1863. This fabulous large Civil War Era ornamental rim lock was patented July 21, 1863 by Branford Lock Works. The lock has a bronze night latch on the face for night security. The lock is very ornate with a Japanese design on the edges and on the keeper. It may be mounted on the face of either side of your door. The face has black inlay with bright copper highlighting on the patent date and ornamentation. Rim lock measures 5” tall by 3 1/2” wide without the keeper. Keeper is 7/8” wide. Back set is 4”. Distance from key hole to edge is 1 7/8”.
