The engraving is partially obscured by an historical repair to the ring. Added to that is the engraving to the reverse with the date of 1818, which sets it firmly in the Regency period of Georgian England (1811-1820).

A stunning Georgian mourning ring. Engraved with the name Nathaniel Hicks age 63 OB 2 April 1809. The ring is 18ct gold. Hallmarked for London 1809. Maker SG. I found one other by the same maker online. It’s decorated in a very similar fashion. It’s intricate engraving which includes a pattern as well as the letters. Really unusual and reminds me of a posey ring. It’s a wide band of very yellow gold that tests at well above 18ct. A rare item. Very desirable and collectible. It’s a really beautiful item. Any questions please ask.
