A scarce and very detailed map of the Provence in Southern France. This genuine copper engraved map covers an area from Sisteron in the North via Ventimiglia (IT) in the East, the Camarque in the Southwest to Avignon in the West. It is further enriched by two decorative cartouches, a compass rose, a milescale, two sailing ships and two seamonsters. The map was published by Jodocus Hondius (1563 - 1612) in 1610 in a French edition of the Mercator-Hondius atlas. It measures 35 x 51 cm (plate size) and is in fair condition. The map has been completely professionally restored. Tears and holes have been closed and it has been completely backed with thin Japanese paper. Nevertheless, as these restorations have been executed very skillfully, the faults are quite unobtrusive and the map looks very.
