ABOUT THE ARTIST - Peter Ellenshaw (1913–2007) was a renowned English matte designer and special effects artist, best known for his work on Disney films. Born in London, he moved to the U.S. in 1953. A talented artist from childhood, Ellenshaw dropped out of school at 14 and endured difficult conditions before being discovered by Walter Percy Day, the leading British special effects artist. As Day’s protégé, he contributed to films like Things to Come, The Thief of Baghdad, and Black Narcissus. Ellenshaw served as a pilot during World War II, and after the war, he was introduced to Walt Disney, beginning a 30-year collaboration that spanned 34 films, including Mary Poppins, which won an Academy Award. In the 1950s, he developed a passion for painting the California coast, gaining recognit.
