Herman Miller began making the Aluminum Group chairs in 1958, and they have been in continuous demand ever since. The chair rotates 360 degrees and has removable floor glides. In a dark pink/brown velvet fabric, this could have been a contract order as not seen any like this before.

The contemporary version of this chair is made of polypropylene, which in our opinion, is not a patch on these original fibreglass models, which age really well. Obviously, we will help where we can.

The shells were initially produced in 4 colours but with their success, more colours were made available. Dark ochre, especially like this excellent example, was introduced and proved to also be a success.

The chair was designed to be both comfortable and stylish, and it has been praised for its ability to provide both relaxation and support. Examples are also on display at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn and in the permanent collection of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston.

Chair is very similar to the Vitra EA217 with a few differences.

The striking yellow shell has a wonderful deep colour with fantastic clearly seen visible fibers which are enhanced by the rich colour of the dowel base. Fiberglass originals always have a base colour and gorgeous 'visible' fibers in the shell itself.

This particular top is invigorated by the light oak DSW base it is sat upon. The condition, age, colour and even origin of the shell can affect the price of each shell. The ‘C’ with the five-pointed star on the underside indicates this is a Cincinnati Milacron shell produced by Herman Miller between the years 1965-1978.
