Petrus Bertius (1565-1629). Bertius was a Flemish philosopher, theologian, historian, geographer and cartographer, who published much in mathematics, history and theology. He is best known today as cartographer for his edition of the Geographia of Ptolemy (based on Mercator’s edition from 1578) its atlas. Jodocus Hondius (1563 – 1612) was a Flemish and Dutch engraver and cartographer. He is sometimes called Jodocus Hondius the Elder to distinguish him from his son Jodocus Hondius II.

Artists and Engravers: Mapmaker: Nicholas Sanson d'Abbeville (1600-1667) and his descendents were important French cartographer's active through the 17th century.
