In Aedes de Venustas Iris Nazarena Eau de Parfum 100 ml, the rare floral root is reborn. It nestles in conversation with incense, giving life to a mysterious and sensual accord of iris and incense that guides this deeply captivating scent. Iris Nazarena takes its name from the rare species Iris Bismarckiana, also known as Iris Nazarena because it grows mainly in the mountains east of Nazareth. The haunting beauty of the flower, with its brown or purple spots and delicate blue-violet veins, seduced Karl Bradl as soon as he discovered it on a postcard. It became the muse of the second perfume Aedes de Venustas, launched in 2013. The flower itself does not emit a scent. Most irises do not. Instead, it is the root, or rhizome, that has become an object of veneration in perfumery. To transform it into aromatic material, the flower must grow for three years before being uprooted. It is then left to dry for another three years before developing its signature note, a blend of dust, wood and violet. It is then ground and distilled. Only after this time-consuming and labor-intensive process is the majestic iris resurrected. A journey that reflects the history of the land where Iris Nazarena grows. The soft, suede petals of the mystical iris muse are outlined in a subtle gradient of brown, purple and white. Ambrette sheds the tender light of dawn on the top notes, rose adds a touch of floral sensuality and the fresh, vibrant green of star anise evokes the flower's stylised stems and leaves. Resinous juniper berries, patchouli and vetiver hint at its roots, embedded in the earth and dark rock, while the sacred smoke rising from the altars weaves its mineral and leathery tendrils throughout the development with cloves, oud and incense. Incense is an olfactory thread that runs through much of the collection Aedes de Venustas. This age-old burnt offering to the gods is at the origin of perfumery, since the word "perfume" itself comes from the Latin per fumo, which translates to "through smoke."
