An important Aesthetic Movement ebonised armchair, ‘Jacobean’ model, designed by E.W. Godwin (1833–1886), made by Collier & Plucknett c.1880 Of circular form with pegged mortise-and-tenon joinery, square uprights topped by pyramid finials, a slatted curved back, and central block stretcher. The seat frame with original cane holes now re-webbed and upholstered with Beata Heuman marbelized velvet. Dimensions: 84 cm high × 56 cm wide × 52 cm deep. Comparable examples in the Victoria & Albert Museum (CIRC.291-1954) Good solid chair, with marks and small losses commensurate with age. Evidence of old inactive woodworm to front left leg.
