If you do not mind losing the tarnish...which I would...you can clean it off and let it age again in an allover pattern and loose the striped portion that was protected by the tape that held the lid on while it was in storage. If not the taped portion may well catch up in time. I do not believe the plate came with the pot, it is too light weight to have been manufactured by Bernard Rice and Sons. This pot does bear a monogram of its original owner, I have included a photo magnified at 5 X. I cannot tell if it is an "E" or an "F", but it is a very decorative monogram.
