Made at the Leach Pottery in St Ives as part of the standard ware range. These cups were described as coffee cups and featured in the standard ware catalogue. I have the original catalogues of 1946, 1952, 1960, 1971 and 1976. I can say that they didn’t feature in any of the catalogues I have until 1960. The cup is in good condition without any chips, cracks or repairs. They were made using 3 different glazes A,B & C. This glaze is the A glaze Black to rust tenmoku glaze. Stamped with both the St Ives Leach pottery stamp and an England stamp potentially for export. In the 1972 catalogue these were listed at number 39 They sold for £0.50

Though this tankard was made at the Leach pottery and bears the clear mark associated with that pottery started by Bernard Leach it was almost certainly not made by Bernard Leach and was made by one of the many potters who worked there from 1920 through to 1978 when Bernard Leach passed away.
