A very rare set of figural fireplace tools comprised of a stand, shovel, poker and tongs, each with a handle in the form of a Hessian soldier, with what appears to be original paint. probably made by the Howes foundry of Boston, Ma., circa 1900. These were the best known pattern of early 19th Century cast iron andirons and it is thought that because the real Hessian Soldiers, who fought against the Colonists during the American Revolution, were so disliked that the Americans enjoyed burning them in effigy in their fireplaces. These are antique condition, they show their age. Please look carefully at all pictures they are part of the description. These are heavy this is why the shipping costs are higher. Open to offers.
