His main work is the "Histoire Naturallle Générale et Particulière", which appeared in 1788 from 1749 until his death. The work translated into many languages gave his author to great scientific recognition and popularity. Buffon's scientific work was based on the methods of observation and experiment. He tried to explain the origin of the living beings by creating the smallest particles and their development as a result of climatic changes, and countered the ide.
