A well constructed and very heavy 17th C. Welsh Oak Coffer. It has a heavy iron chain on the lid that would once kept the precious items inside safely padlocked. Of oak (or elm) construction, wrought iron hinges, lock and carry handle. The lid has been recessed to fit around the main body, to prevent being prised open. This is an interesting piece, showing much age and wear, together with changes in form as it has been repaired over the years.
