A incredible antique Victorian sardonyx/horned helment shell cameo brooch/pendant, mid-nineteenth century. Features finely carved, high relief portrait of a lovely lady in profile, skillfully composed so that shell's natural red spotting colors her upswept curls. Has gold tone twisted metal wire setting, unknown metal quality. Backing features safety pin C-clasp and loop, so it can be worn pinned or around the neck. Measures approx. 2.25"l x 1.75"w. In good antique condition, with just light surface wear/dirt consistent with age and what appear to be some fine fractures in the shell (most obvious to left of portrait) - see pictures. No marks observed. An impressive antique!.
