The firm was founded by William Asprey in Mitcham, Surrey in 1781. The hallmarks, on the undersides of the bases, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter D for 1928 and the A & Co Ltd makers' mark for Asprey & Co Ltd.
