The shaft is, in my very amateur opinion, malacca but again I'll be happy to be corrected. The hallmarks show the makers mark JH which is Jonathan Howell, a prominent military stick maker from 1895/6, so I would say that the original date of manufacture would be the later years of the 19th Century, possible early 20th Century?.
